Klabu ya Manchester United iko katika majonzi kufuatia kifo cha Mkurugenzi wake wa zamani, ,Amer Midani.
Mzaliwa huyo wa Beirut mwaka 1957, Mr Midani alijiunga na klabu hiyo ya Old Trafford mwaka 1987 wakati United ilipoinunua klabu ya mpira wa kikapu ya Manchester Giants, ambayo alikuwa Mwenyekiti wake.
 
Awali alikuwa raia wa Lebanon na bingwa wa michuano ya watoto ya table tennis akiwa ana umri wa miaka 15 na alihamia England akiwa ana umri wa miaka 18.
“Nilistaajabishwa sana kusikia habari hizo, kwa sababu umri wa miaka 55 si mkubwa,” alisema rais wa heshima wa United, Martin Edwards.
“Tulimfahamu alipojiunga na bodi na wakati wote alikuwa mtu safi na alikuwa anapendwa sana Old Trafford. Kwa kiasi kikubwa na habari za kuhuzunisha na daima atakumbukwa na kila mmoja aliyemtambua.”
Sir Alex Ferguson, kuchaguliwa kocha wa klabu hiyo ni miongoni mwa maamuzi yaliyochukuliwa na bodi ya United baada ya kuwasili kwa Mr Midani:
"Aliunga mkono sana kuajiriwa kwangu na wakati wote nakubali juu ya uelewa wake kwa kazi yangu Old Trafford,”alisema Fergie"
Kila mtu katika klabu ya Manchester United angependa kutoa pole kwa familia ya Mr Midani.

Ex-director passes away

Manchester United is sad to report that former club director, Amer Midani, has passed away.

Born in Beirut in 1957, Mr Midani joined the Old Trafford board in 1987 when United bought the Manchester Giants basketball team, of which he was chairman.

A keen all-round sportsman, he was the Lebanese national junior table tennis champion at the age of 15, and moved to England at the age of 18.

“I was very surprised to hear the news, because 55 is no age,” says United’s honourary president, Martin Edwards. “Amer was a very quiet gentleman who I first met when we bought the Manchester Giants basketball team, with whom he was involved.

“We got to know him when he joined the board and he was always personable and was very well liked around Old Trafford. It’s extremely sad news and he will most certainly be missed by everyone who knew him.”

Sir Alex Ferguson, whose managerial appointment was one of the first major decisions taken by the United board after Mr Midani's arrival, added: "He was very supportive of my appointment and I always appreciated his understanding of my work at Old Trafford."

Everybody at Manchester United football club would like to extend their condolences to Mr Midani’s family.
