WENGER: MANCHESTER UNITED HAVE BID FOR VERMAELEN

Louis van Gaal has put an offer in for the unsettled Belgian defender this summer, according to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.
Manchester United have lodged a bid for Thomas Vermaelen, Arsene Wenger has revealed.
Louis van Gaal is keen to bring in another centre-back to rotate with Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans in his preferred 3-5-2 formation.

Vermaelen, who struggled to secure a regular first-team place for the Gunners last season, has been identified as a top target in that position.
And his manager has now revealed that United have firmed up their interest by making an offer.
"Manchester United are part of the group [of bidders]. He could leave," he said.
